To prevent this from happening again I made a bracket at the bottom end of the manifold. With an LCB manifold this bracket is standard, but for the (or just "this") Freeflow it is missing. The bracket is hardly visible, but it's at the left of the photo, just behind the oily gear change rod.

It should come as no surprise that the Mini is much more quiet now. On the trip to the UK you couldn't hear the exhaust itself, because the 'engine' made so much noise. Now I know it wasn't the engine, but exhaust noise from the manifold. This fix should also fix the problem we often had with exhaust fumes in the interiour. I'm VERY happy with the result (low engine noise, hearable exhaust noise and no nasty fumes in the interiour)...
